Scientific Background

Histone H4(1-21) is the unmodified N-terminal H4 tail and contains the major acetylation sites Lys5, Lys8, Lys12 and Lys16. The fragment contains determinants required for recognition by p300/CBP histone acetyltransferases and is useful as a defined substrate for histone-acetylation studies.

Research Applications
  • p300/CBP histone acetyltransferase assays
  • H4 acetylation studies
  • chromatin enzyme kinetics
  • epigenetic inhibitor screening
Experimental Notes

This is the unmodified free-acid H4(1-21) sequence. It is chemically distinct from N-terminally acetylated and biotinylated H4 constructs and serves as a useful baseline substrate.
