Plasminogen Activator Inhibitor 1 (PAI-1)

PAI-1 is a 50 kDa glycoprotein that belongs to the serine proteinase inhibitor superfamily which is the primary inhibitor of tissue- and urokinase-type plasminogen activators.The function of PAI-1 is to decrease fibrinolysis, leading to fibrin accumulation that is associated with thrombotic disease. Recombinant PAI-1 comprises a 379 amino acid fragment (24-402) corresponding to the mature PAI-1 protein and is expressed in E. coli with an amino-terminal hexahistidine tag.
