MOTS-c, Human Mitochondrial-Derived Peptide

MOTS-c is a 16-residue mitochondrial-derived peptide encoded within a short open reading frame of the mitochondrial 12S rRNA region. The original discovery study linked MOTS-c to cellular metabolic regulation and reported effects on insulin sensitivity and metabolic homeostasis in experimental models. Subsequent work has used the exact MRWQEMGYIFYPRKLR sequence to investigate mitochondrial-to-nuclear signaling, stress responses, metabolism and age-related physiology.
