Scientific Background

H-D-Val-Leu-Arg-AFC is a fluorogenic substrate used for glandular kallikrein and other arginine-directed serine-protease assays. Cleavage at the Arg-AFC bond releases AFC and increases fluorescence near 380/500 nm. The substrate provides a simple continuous readout for kallikrein activity, kinetic characterization and inhibitor studies.

Experimental Notes

Arg-AFC substrates may be processed by more than one trypsin-like protease. Enzyme specificity should therefore be established with purified enzymes, selective inhibitors or appropriate biological controls.
