Scientific Background

Amylin (20-29) (human) is a synthetic research peptide in the amylin / islet amyloid polypeptide family. Amylin, also known as islet amyloid polypeptide, belongs to the calcitonin peptide family and signals through amylin receptor complexes formed by the calcitonin receptor with receptor-activity-modifying proteins. Human amylin is also strongly amyloidogenic. Amylin fragments and analogs are useful for receptor pharmacology, peptide aggregation, amyloid formation, sequence-function, and comparative species studies.

Research Applications
  • receptor or ligand-binding assays
  • competition studies
  • biochemical or enzymatic assays
  • analytical LC-MS/HPLC methods
  • antibody controls
  • cell-based experiments
  • comparative structure-activity studies
Experimental Notes

For a fragment, residue-substituted analog, stereochemical variant, labeled peptide, or terminally modified form, experimental behavior should be evaluated for the exact construct rather than assumed to match the native parent peptide. Sequence-dependent solubility, aggregation, adsorption, oxidation, and stability should be considered when establishing reconstitution, storage, and assay conditions.
