Scientific Background

[Trp3, Arg5]-Ghrelin (1-5) is a synthetic research peptide in the ghrelin family. Ghrelin is an acylated peptide hormone that activates the growth-hormone secretagogue receptor (GHSR). The unusual acyl modification at Ser3 is a critical structural determinant for native ghrelin receptor activation, while N-terminal residues contain much of the minimal receptor-activating information. Ghrelin fragments, des-acyl forms, acyl variants, and substituted analogs are used to probe receptor recognition and structure-activity relationships.

Research Applications
  • receptor-binding
  • competition assays
  • functional signaling assays
  • enzymatic-processing or stability studies
  • antibody controls
  • LC-MS/HPLC method development
  • comparative structure-activity experiments
Experimental Notes

For a fragment, residue-substituted analog, stereochemical variant, labeled peptide, or terminally modified form, experimental behavior should be evaluated for the exact construct rather than assumed to match the native parent peptide. Sequence-dependent solubility, aggregation, adsorption, and stability should be considered when selecting reconstitution and assay conditions.
