Scientific Background

Myr-RLYRKRIWRSAGR is the scrambled-sequence control commonly used with myristoylated zeta inhibitory peptide (ZIP). It contains the same amino-acid composition and N-terminal myristoylation as ZIP but in a rearranged sequence. Published neuronal and behavioral studies have used scrambled ZIP as a comparator to distinguish sequence-dependent effects of ZIP from nonspecific effects of peptide delivery or lipid modification.

Research Applications
  • ZIP control experiments
  • PKC/PKMzeta signaling studies
  • neuronal plasticity research
  • myristoylated peptide control studies
Experimental Notes

Scrambled ZIP is a control reagent, not an assumption of complete biological inactivity. Match concentration, vehicle, delivery method, and exposure time to the corresponding ZIP experiment.

Selected References
  1. Protein kinase C zeta pseudosubstrate inhibitor peptide promiscuously binds PKC family isoforms and disrupts conventional PKC targeting and translocation
  2. GSK-3β activation is required for ZIP-induced disruption of learned fear
