Scientific Background

Osteocalcin (7-19) (human) is a synthetic research peptide in the osteocalcin / bone Gla protein family. Osteocalcin is a small bone matrix protein produced by osteoblasts and subject to gamma-carboxylation. Human osteocalcin is 49 residues long, and defined fragments have been used to characterize immunoreactivity, assay stability, processing, and region-specific antibody recognition. Osteocalcin fragments and modified peptides are therefore useful as analytical, immunochemical, and bone-protein research reagents.

Research Applications
  • receptor or ligand-binding assays
  • competition studies
  • biochemical or enzymatic assays
  • analytical LC-MS/HPLC methods
  • antibody controls
  • cell-based experiments
  • comparative structure-activity studies
Experimental Notes

For a fragment, residue-substituted analog, stereochemical variant, labeled peptide, or terminally modified form, experimental behavior should be evaluated for the exact construct rather than assumed to match the native parent peptide. Sequence-dependent solubility, aggregation, adsorption, oxidation, and stability should be considered when establishing reconstitution, storage, and assay conditions.

Selected References
  1. Measurement of a more stable region of osteocalcin in serum by radioimmunoassay
  2. The osteocalcin propeptide is not secreted in vivo or in vitro
