Nocistatin

Nocistatin is a receptor like that of an opioid receptor. It may act as a neurotransmitter in the brain. The novel neuropeptide encoded by the gene for the nociceptin/orphanin FQ precursor. Nocistatin blocks nociceptin-induced allodynia and hyperalgesia, and attenuates pain evoked by prostaglandin E2.

Nocistatin is a 6-residue synthetic peptide with the sequence Glu-Gln-Lys-Gln-Leu-Gln. These sequence-derived properties describe the reagent chemically; no specific receptor, enzyme, pathway, disease association, or biological activity is assigned without product-specific experimental evidence.
