Scientific Background

Melanocyte Associated Antigen gp100 is a synthetic gp100/PMEL melanocyte antigen peptide. gp100 (also known as PMEL/gp100) is a melanocyte-lineage protein that contains multiple experimentally defined MHC-restricted T-cell epitopes. Synthetic gp100 peptides have been used to identify cytotoxic T-lymphocyte epitopes, quantify peptide-specific T-cell responses, investigate HLA-binding anchor substitutions, and compare native versus affinity-enhanced antigenic peptides. The HLA restriction and T-cell recognition of any individual product depend on its exact sequence.

Research Applications
  • HLA-peptide binding studies
  • melanoma antigen-specific T-cell assays
  • CTL epitope mapping
  • tetramer or immune-monitoring controls
  • native-versus-modified epitope comparisons
Experimental Notes

For antigenic or viral peptides, HLA restriction, cellular response, and immunological activity should not be inferred solely from the source protein name; the exact sequence, residue numbering, strain or genotype, and experimental system should be considered. For labeled or otherwise modified variants, the modification may also affect binding or assay behavior.
