Scientific Background

Beta-Defensin-3, human is a synthetic research peptide in the human defensin antimicrobial peptide family. Human defensins are cysteine-rich cationic host-defense peptides. HNP-1, HNP-2, and related defensins contain conserved disulfide connectivity and have been studied for antimicrobial activity, peptide folding, oligomerization, membrane interactions, and the contribution of individual residues and disulfide constraints to biological function.

Research Applications
  • receptor or ligand-binding assays
  • competition studies
  • biochemical or enzymatic assays
  • analytical LC-MS/HPLC methods
  • antibody controls
  • cell-based experiments
  • comparative structure-activity studies
Experimental Notes

For a fragment, residue-substituted analog, stereochemical variant, labeled peptide, or terminally modified form, experimental behavior should be evaluated for the exact construct rather than assumed to match the native parent peptide. Sequence-dependent solubility, aggregation, adsorption, oxidation, and stability should be considered when establishing reconstitution, storage, and assay conditions.
