Scientific Background | Preptin is a 34-residue peptide corresponding to Asp69-Leu102 of the pro-IGF-II E-peptide. It was originally isolated from pancreatic beta-cell secretory granules and shown to be co-secreted with insulin in response to glucose. In the original study, synthetic preptin enhanced glucose-stimulated insulin secretion in beta-cell and perfused-pancreas models. Later work has continued to examine preptin as a sequence-defined pro-IGF-II-derived peptide in pancreatic and metabolic signaling research. |
Research Applications | - beta-cell secretion studies
- glucose-stimulated insulin secretion research
- pro-IGF-II peptide biology
- metabolic signaling studies
|
Experimental Notes | Preptin should be treated as a research peptide derived from pro-IGF-II rather than as an interchangeable substitute for IGF-II. Reported insulin-secretory effects depend on the experimental beta-cell or pancreas model. |
