Histone H3(69-89) spans the globular histone-fold region and includes Lys79, a residue methylated by DOT1L in nucleosomal H3. H3K79 methylation is linked to transcription and DNA-damage signaling and differs structurally from modifications on the exposed N-terminal tail.
