SpoVM and Bacterial Sporulation
SpoVM is a remarkably small bacterial protein expressed during sporulation. It associates with the surface of the developing forespore and has become a model system for studying how short amphipathic peptides recognize membrane properties such as curvature and lipid organization.

Cy3-Labeled SpoVM
The added terminal cysteine provides a site for maleimide-directed Cy3 attachment. A fluorescent SpoVM derivative can be useful for visualizing peptide localization, membrane association, and surface binding in bacterial or model-membrane experiments.
