Scientific Background

Biotin-Beta-Endomorphin, human is a synthetic research peptide in the endomorphin / mu-opioid receptor peptide family. Endomorphin-1 and endomorphin-2 are tetrapeptide ligands with high preference for the mu-opioid receptor. Pharmacological studies show that the two peptides can differ in efficacy and downstream G-protein signaling despite sharing strong mu-receptor selectivity, making them useful for comparing ligand-specific receptor activation.

Research Applications
  • mu-opioid receptor binding assays
  • opioid receptor signaling studies
  • endomorphin-1 versus endomorphin-2 comparisons
  • opioid peptide structure-activity experiments
Experimental Notes

The exact sequence, isoform, residue substitutions, amidation, stereochemistry, labels, and other chemical modifications can change activity substantially. For receptor-activating peptides and membrane-active peptides, concentration and assay format are especially important and should be matched to the intended experimental system.
