PGLa

PGLa is an antimicrobial peptide, synthesized in the stomach and stored in a novel granular multinucleated cell in the gastric mucosa. It is stored as active, processed peptides in large granules within the granular gland secretions of the skin. As a member of the magainin family it assumes an amphiphilic α-helical structure upon membrane binding.The cationic peptide has a high affinity for bacterial membranes and is able to permeabilize them.
