Scientific Background

PAR-2 (1-6) amide (mouse, rat) is a synthetic research peptide in the protease-activated receptor-2 (PAR-2) activating peptide family. PAR-2 is activated by proteolytic exposure of an N-terminal tethered ligand and can also be stimulated by synthetic activating peptides based on SLIGRL/SLIGKV-related sequences. Such peptides provide direct pharmacological tools for separating PAR-2 signaling from protease-dependent effects and have been used in calcium, NF-kappaB, inflammatory, proliferative, and vascular-response assays.

Research Applications
  • PAR-2 receptor activation assays
  • calcium-mobilization studies
  • inflammatory signaling experiments
  • vascular-response assays
  • PAR-1 versus PAR-2 selectivity studies
Experimental Notes

The exact sequence, isoform, residue substitutions, amidation, stereochemistry, labels, and other chemical modifications can change activity substantially. For receptor-activating peptides and membrane-active peptides, concentration and assay format are especially important and should be matched to the intended experimental system.
