Scientific Background

PAR-1(1-6) (mouse, rat) is a synthetic research peptide in the protease-activated receptor-1 (PAR-1) activating peptide family. PAR-1 is activated physiologically when thrombin cleaves the receptor N terminus to expose a tethered ligand. Short synthetic peptides such as SFLLRN/SFLLRNP and more PAR-1-selective TFLLR-related sequences can activate the receptor without proteolysis and are widely used to dissect PAR-1 signaling independently of thrombin's other substrates.

Research Applications
  • PAR-1 receptor activation assays
  • thrombin-receptor signaling studies
  • platelet or vascular cell experiments
  • calcium-mobilization assays
  • PAR subtype-selectivity comparisons
Experimental Notes

The exact sequence, isoform, residue substitutions, amidation, stereochemistry, labels, and other chemical modifications can change activity substantially. For receptor-activating peptides and membrane-active peptides, concentration and assay format are especially important and should be matched to the intended experimental system.
