Scientific Background

[Lys4] Sarafotoxin S6c is a synthetic research peptide in the sarafotoxin / endothelin-receptor peptide family. Sarafotoxins are snake-venom peptides closely related to endothelins and are used as pharmacological probes of endothelin receptors. Sarafotoxin S6b can activate endothelin receptors with strong ETA-associated activity in several preparations, whereas sarafotoxin S6c is widely used as an ETB-selective agonist. Individual isoforms and residue substitutions are therefore useful for distinguishing ETA- and ETB-mediated responses.

Research Applications
  • ETA/ETB receptor pharmacology
  • vascular contraction or relaxation assays
  • endothelin receptor subtype studies
  • agonist selectivity comparisons
Experimental Notes

The exact sequence, reporter group, phosphorylation state, stereochemistry, and terminal modifications should be considered when comparing this reagent with the parent peptide or published assay substrates. Enzyme concentration, buffer composition, cofactors, pH, ionic strength, and substrate concentration can also affect measured activity.
