Scientific Background

[D-Ser14] - Humanin (HN) is a synthetic research peptide in the humanin mitochondrial-derived peptide family. Humanin is a short mitochondrial-derived peptide originally characterized for cytoprotective and neuroprotective actions. Humanin analogs such as HNG/Gly14-humanin have been used extensively to investigate sequence-dependent protection against cellular stress and amyloid-beta-associated toxicity. Experimental work has linked humanin signaling to pathways including PI3K/Akt and JAK2/STAT3 in defined model systems.

Research Applications
  • cell-survival and cytoprotection assays
  • amyloid-beta toxicity models
  • mitochondrial-stress studies
  • humanin analog structure-activity comparisons
Experimental Notes

The exact sequence, reporter group, phosphorylation state, stereochemistry, and terminal modifications should be considered when comparing this reagent with the parent peptide or published assay substrates. Enzyme concentration, buffer composition, cofactors, pH, ionic strength, and substrate concentration can also affect measured activity.
