Product Description

Cortistatin 14 is a somatastatin-like neuropeptide with neuronal depressant and sleep modulating properties. Cortistatin 14 is present primarily in the cortex and hippocampus. In the hippocampus, cortistatin 14 inhibits pyramidal cell firing and co-exists with GABA. Exogenous cortistatin impairs short-term memory processing.

Scientific Background

Cortistatin 14 (mouse, rat) is a synthetic research peptide in the cortistatin peptide family. Cortistatin is structurally related to somatostatin and binds with high affinity to all five somatostatin receptor subtypes. Cortistatin peptides are used to compare somatostatin-receptor pharmacology and to investigate cortistatin-specific neuroendocrine and immune signaling.

Research Applications
  • somatostatin receptor binding assays
  • cortistatin versus somatostatin comparisons
  • neuroendocrine signaling studies
Experimental Notes

The exact sequence, residue range, species, terminal state, and chemical modifications should be matched to the intended assay. Fragmentation or processing can materially alter receptor selectivity, potency, aggregation, or enzymatic behavior.
