Scientific Background

Conantokin T, Marine snail, Conus tullpa is a synthetic research peptide in the conantokin / NMDA-receptor peptide antagonist family. Conantokins are gamma-carboxyglutamate-containing cone-snail venom peptides that modulate NMDA receptors. Conantokin-G has been characterized as a potent competitive NMDA-receptor antagonist with strong selectivity for receptors containing the NR2B/GluN2B subunit. Mutagenesis and electrophysiology studies indicate that conantokin-G interacts with the glutamate-binding region of the receptor.

Research Applications
  • NMDA receptor electrophysiology
  • GluN2B/NR2B-selectivity studies
  • competitive antagonist assays
  • cone-snail peptide structure-function studies
Experimental Notes

The exact sequence, reporter group, phosphorylation state, stereochemistry, and terminal modifications should be considered when comparing this reagent with the parent peptide or published assay substrates. Enzyme concentration, buffer composition, cofactors, pH, ionic strength, and substrate concentration can also affect measured activity.

Selected References
  1. Conantokin G is an NR2B-selective competitive antagonist of NMDA receptors
