Scientific Background

Cecropin B is a 35-residue cationic antimicrobial peptide originally identified in the giant silk moth Hyalophora cecropia. The amidated sequence KWKVFKKIEKMGRNIRNGIVKAGPAIAVLGEAKAL-NH2 is amphipathic and has been widely used to study peptide-membrane interactions and antimicrobial activity. Cecropins characteristically form alpha-helical structures in membrane-like environments and interact strongly with bacterial membranes.

Research Applications
  • antimicrobial peptide research
  • bacterial membrane interaction studies
  • peptide secondary-structure studies
  • innate-defense peptide research
Experimental Notes

Antimicrobial activity depends strongly on organism, medium, ionic strength and assay format. The C-terminal amide is part of this catalog product definition and should be retained when comparing sequence-specific activity.
