Scientific Background

alpha-Conotoxin GI is a synthetic research peptide in the alpha-conotoxin / nicotinic acetylcholine receptor probe family. Alpha-conotoxins are small disulfide-rich peptides from cone-snail venoms that act as competitive antagonists at nicotinic acetylcholine receptors. Individual alpha-conotoxins can display strong subtype selectivity, making exact sequence and disulfide connectivity critical determinants of receptor pharmacology. Synthetic analogs are commonly used to map nAChR subtype recognition and peptide structure-function relationships.

Research Applications
  • nicotinic acetylcholine receptor binding assays
  • nAChR subtype-selectivity studies
  • electrophysiology and ion-channel pharmacology
  • disulfide and residue structure-activity studies
  • analytical reference applications
Experimental Notes

For fragments, substituted analogs, labeled peptides, stereochemical variants, or terminally modified forms, experimental behavior should be evaluated for the exact construct rather than assumed to match the native parent peptide. Sequence-dependent solubility, aggregation, adsorption, oxidation, and stability should be considered when establishing reconstitution, storage, and assay conditions.
